We're not building a marketplace. We're building a movement.

The Problem

South African artists - particularly those from townships documenting kasi culture - face systemic barriers:

  • Gallery Gatekeeping: Traditional galleries have 2+ year waiting lists. Artists walk for hours with portfolios only to be turned away.
  • Extractive Economics: Galleries take 40-60% commission. Artists create the value but capture a fraction of it.
  • No Infrastructure: Many talented artists sell through PDFs and WhatsApp, losing sales to friction.
  • Lost Narrative: On generic platforms, the story behind the work is an afterthought. But for kasi artists, the story IS the work.

Our Vision

"Legae" means "home" in Setswana. The name carries layers:

  • The art comes FROM home - the townships, streets, and lived experience
  • The artist has a home ON the platform - their space, their rules
  • The art finds a new home - WITH the collector
  • The platform IS home - for artists who had nowhere else to go

What We Believe

Artists eat first.

88% of every sale goes to the artist. Only 12% platform fee covers payment processing and operations. Non-negotiable.

Story is the product.

Every piece lives inside a narrative. Buyers don't purchase art - they co-sign a memory.

No gatekeeping.

No curator approval to join. Artists control their own pages. Community surfaces what resonates.

Collecting should be accessible.

Entry-level prints, payment plans, no intimidation. Building new collectors, not just serving existing ones.
